Il Signor Camillo: Italian Moonshine from the Ligurian Mountains
Created by Diego Assandri, the latest generation of millers at the Antico Mulino di Sassello, active since 1830, this moonshine is the first Italian whisky from the Ligurian mountains. Using only local grains, Diego has revived artisanal tradition and a love for the Ligurian territory.
Diego, master distiller and miller, studied with international distilling experts to create a zero-kilometer product. The Moonshine from Mulino di Sassello is distilled from local corn, stone-ground, cooked, and fermented with Sassello water, and double distilled for a unique flavor. The proximity to the sea gives the corn special organoleptic characteristics.
The moonshine is a grain distillate, predominantly corn, not aged in barrels. It is fresh and perfect for mixing. In 2023, “Il Signor Camillo” won the Gold Medal at the World Whiskey Awards in London, gaining international fame without losing its artisanal and local character.
The ribbed bottle, inspired by the glass tradition of Altare, pays homage to Ligurian culture. The Moonshine is bottled in the historic “Vichy” bottle, a symbol of authenticity and tradition.
